This map depicts an area downstream from London on the River Thames that would be vastly changed during the 19th century by the building of docks. The Tilbury Docks, to occupy the lower left of this map, will be bulit in 1886, resulting in the sudden expansion of settlements such as Chadwell (St. Marys), Little Thurrock, and Grays.
